FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Clearpath Robotics sponsors multiple Kingfisher Unmanned Surface Vessels for Autonomy Competition at MIT

(Kitchener, ON, Canada – April 30, 2013) Clearpath Robotics is the official hardware sponsor for the MOOS Development and Applications Working Group (MOOS-DAWG) Autonomy Competition, to be held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), July 30-31, 2013. The autonomy competition will span the two day event, taking place between workshops and discussion panels.

“We’re proud to be the hardware sponsor for this competition because it supports innovation in open source robotics and maritime autonomy,” said Matt Rendall, CEO of Clearpath Robotics. “Providing our Kingfisher USVs will enable researchers to develop new applications using MOOS software, while gaining practical experience.”

The Maritime Autonomy Competition will focus on collaborative and adaptive autonomy to maneuver a pair of surface vessels to search a given area for hazardous objects. The Kingfisher is an ideal hardware fit for the competition as it is designed with enhanced autonomous capabilities and is fully compatible with MOOS.

The MOOS-DAWG gathering was established for developers and practitioners to meet, discuss, and engage MOOS software. Discussions for the event will include fielded autonomous platforms using MOOS, development of MOOS-based software applications, and panel discussions on best-practices and road-maps for improvements.
